The AC that came with your Bath, PA house runs fine, and though it’s getting on in years you don’t want to spend the money to replace it. However, you may be throwing money away running that old AC when installing a new one would pay for itself in savings. It’s time to consider investing in a new AC.

Lower Energy Costs

Central ACs are rated with SEER ratings, and anything lower than 13 is pretty inefficient as far as energy ratings. If your AC is older than 10 years you’ve probably got a SEER rating of 10 or possibly lower. Replacing your 10 year old central AC can save you between 20 and 40 percent of energy costs associated with cooling, according to the US Energy Department, and replacing older units gives you even more savings. The higher the SEER rating, the more you’ll save.

Better Indoor Air Quality

You may not have considered the correlation between your allergies and your old AC, but an old AC system may be pumping dusty, pathogen-filled air into the house. Allergy and cold meds can get expensive if you need them often, and if you are an allergy sufferer, consider your old AC system a serious culprit to your discomfort.

Less Humidity

While you might not mind feeling a little humidity inside the house, think twice before you let it get out of control. Mold loves to grow in humid conditions, and anything over 50 percent encourages mold spores. Not only is breathing in mold bad for your health, mold can cause serious damage to your home. A mold infestation may require removing and replacing entire walls of your house. The cost of a new AC is far lower than remodeling an entire room because of mold damage.
